This book is a journal.
Here are reflections to ponder, to hold and to write about. They
invite you home, to deepen your relationship with your own body
and with your own true self. Think of it like a journey, an exploration
into new territory. This territory is you!
The sections are:
Each page contains a question or set of questions,
and then lined space to write about your reflections. This book
is a journey of discovery that begins to change your relationship
with your body and your self. The book is not directly about food
or nutrition, but it does address many of the types of feelings
that may trigger you to eat even when you are not hungry. It expands
perspectives and provides tools to be more comfortable in your
own skin.
Each of us makes assumptions about our life and
the world around us. These assumptions are not good or bad in
themselves, but when they are unconscious they can impact our
actions without us even knowing it. Reflecting and journaling
are ways to explore what your ideas and beliefs actually are.
That way you can decide which are useful and which cause you pain.
Just becoming more aware of them increases your choices. Becoming
aware begins to change how you think.

Here are random examples of the reflections
in the book:
Being at home in your body
-
Think of your relationship with your
body just as you would think of a relationship with
a spouse, child or friend. Each relationship you are in has
a special quality or tone. It can vary from day to day, but
generally has certain characteristics. What characterizes your
relationship with your body? What is this relationship like
for you?
-
Do you feel at home in your body?
Do you sometimes feel shut off or disconnected? If so, when
does that happen? How do you know?
- How does your body communicate with you? Have
you ever had the experience of having a knot in your stomach while
you speak to someone and then realize later that something wasn’t
right? Often our body knows before we do. How does your body “talk”
to you? What are the internal clues that there is something going
on?
- Other entries include reflections on being
tired, being angry, being unsettled, processing emotions, being
present, and how we think of beauty.
-
Other entries include reflection
on what drains you, what makes you happy, where you argue with
your life, what you are grateful for, and what success means
to you.
Discovering your
true self
-
Who are you? Call on your
own, deep, inner wisdom. Reach inside to the core of you. What
are the traits or qualities that make you YOU? Without judgments
of good or bad, what do you find?
-
What do you have control over?
What things are you trying to control that you can’t?
What can you control that you don’t (for example: saying
No)?
-
When do you think in terms of “all
or none”? Most of us do this far more often
than we realize! When do you engage in this kind of thinking,
and how does it affect you? When is it useful? When is it
not? Keep paying attention throughout the day and notice how
often it comes up.
-
Other entries include reflection
on responsibility, things we believe can’t
be changed, integrity, and how we define and are impacted
by power.
-
How do you define sensual?
Do you associate it with sex? Do you associate it with your
felt senses? Is sensuality appealing and desirable to you, or
is the idea uncomfortable? See if you can think of sensual in
a way that is playful and alluring, inviting you into relationship
with your body. How broad can you make your definition?
